Child Protection & Abuse Policy
At Muddy Roots, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of abuse—including, but not limited to, physical, sexual, emotional abuse, or neglect. Our highest priority is the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child in our care.
Mandated Reporting
In accordance with Tennessee state law, all Muddy Roots staff, including volunteers, are mandated reporters and are required to complete annual training on recognizing and reporting signs of abuse and neglect. Staff are legally obligated to report any suspected abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities, including Child Protective Services (CPS).
Staff & Volunteer Accountability
Any staff member or volunteer under investigation for suspected abuse will be placed on immediate unpaid leave while the matter is reviewed. Following the investigation, outcomes may include disciplinary action, termination of employment, and/or criminal prosecution if warranted.
If abuse is reasonably believed to have occurred, it will be reported promptly to:
The child’s parent(s) or guardian(s)
Local law enforcement and/or
Relevant regulatory and child welfare agencies
Confirmed incidents of abuse will result in permanent termination of employment.
Student Enrollment & CPS Involvement
If a student is involved in a situation related to abuse, violence, or any active investigation with CPS, Muddy Roots reserves the right to issue an immediate pause in enrollment while the matter is assessed. Our goal in every situation is to prioritize safety while maintaining sensitivity and confidentiality.
