Winter Gear List
Keeping your camper cozy! Ideas of helpful winter layers
Base Layers ( Layer Right next to your child's skin)
What is does: Wicks Moisture
Materials to look for: Wool or Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester (NO COTTON)
The right fit: snug
Middle Layers (Goes over the base layers)
What is does: Insulates
Materials to look for: Wool, down, or fleece
The right fit: Close to the body without restraining movement
Outer Layer
What is does: Protects your child from rain, snow, and wind
Materials to look for: a waterproof jacket or shell; outerwear that's also breathable (such as those from Gore- Tex) is key if your child will be physically active; snow bibs or insulated bibs are good here. In cool, wet weather, a large roomy rain suit is really helpful
The right fit: Allows easy movement and has plenty of room for layers
Checklist for the winter
- Waterproof boots/shoes (insulated bogs are an amazing hybrid choice)
- Wool blend socks
- Warm hat/gloves
- Long johns
- Fleece or wool blend sweater
- Fleece or down vest
- Warm coat that can get dirty
- Quick dry pants or snow bibs
- snow bibs have been an awesome choice because they keep the explorer warm and cozy AND protected from the wet ground
- Raincoat
Polyester Fleece and wool blends are both AWESOME layering choices because they are soft and warm but also wick moisture away from the wearer. In general, PLEASE avoid sending your explorer wearing only cotton (even though cotton is the COZIEST indoors) because once cotton gets wet, it STAYS wet.
